Holidays on the Lake Maggiore

Lake Maggiore or Lake Verbano, the second largest lake in Italy after Lake Garda, extends between Switzerland, Lombardy and Piemonte. Islands, beautiful villas, castles, gardens, parks and nature reserves make the landscape of this lake a paradise for nature and tranquility lovers, perfect for sports enthusiasts. Ideal for a weekend or a holiday in any season of the year as a couple or in a family with children.

What to see on Lake Maggiore

Within the area of Lake Maggiore there are eleven islands, which we suggest to visit with a boat trip to admire them closely and to enjoy the lake view from the middle of its waters. The archipelago of the Borromean Islands is beautiful with Isola Madre, Isola Bella and Isola dei Pescatori. Do not miss the three rocks called Castelli di Cannero with the remains of the fortress Vitaliana and the Isolino di San Giovanni in front of the beautiful town of Verbania, which hosts many villas. Another thing which is worth seeing is the eighteenth-century Villa Ponti di Arona, in the center of Arona, the Rocca di Arona for the view it offers and the Rocca Borromea di Angera, a majestic perfectly preserved fortification. For nature lovers there are many botanical gardens, such as Villa Taranto with more than a thousand plants, the Park of Camellias in Locarno and nature reserves, such as the Val Grande National Park and the Parco Naturale della Valle del Ticino.

What to do on Lake Maggiore

For lovers of sport, Lake Maggiore is a real paradise. The waters of the lake are ideal for sailing, water skiing, canoeing and diving. While in the surrounding areas you can go trekking, mountain biking and horse riding among unique natural landscapes.
