Info and Description

When to go to Italy? More or less every season is good for visiting Italy. The climatic differences between the various regions and areas of Italy means that every month is good for one or more destinations. Italy, thanks to the influence of the sea, enjoys for the most part a Mediterranean climate, with the Alps blocking the cold from northern Europe. Specifically, in the Bel Paese several microclimates are found, due to the distance from the sea and the altitude and the temperature difference between North, Central and South can be high. So here is some info to decide when to go to Italy and then choose where to go and what to bring .

The Italian climate

In the alpine region of Northern Italy , which includes Val d'Aosta, Trentino Alto Adige, Piedmont , Lombardy , Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, the climate is typical of northern Europe, very cold in winter with frequent snowfalls and cool in summer with frequent rains. In the flat areas of the Po Valley, in the Apennines and along the Adriatic coast, with Emilia-Romagna, Marche , Abruzzo and Molise, the climate is temperate humid, very cold in winter and very hot in summer. While in the Po valley, where the Po flows, the climate is hot in summer and cold in winter with frequent fog and snow.
In Central Italy , along the coasts of Liguria , Tuscany , Lazio and Campania, the climate is instead typically Mediterranean, with mild winters, hot and dry summers and frequent rainfall in autumn. Compared to the North, the cold period is shorter and less intense and summer is longer.
Finally, Southern Italy is characterized by a Mediterranean climate where autumn and spring have temperatures close to those of the summer in other areas of Italy, the summers are very hot and dry and the average temperatures exceed 25 degrees. In some southern areas of Sicily and Sardinia, the climate is even closer to the desert or sub-tropical.

When to go to Italy

If you are thinking of taking a cultural holiday in the cities of art , the seasons to visit are pleasantly spring and autumn , when the days are long, the landscapes are a triumph of colors and the climate is mild and you can turn without the summer heat or winter cold. If you are planning a beach holiday in Italy or on the lake , the best months are those that go from May to September . If you are a lover of altitudes and winter sports, the one between December and March is the best time for a mountain holiday in the Alps and the Apennines.

Try to avoid August because it can be very hot, the country is invaded by tourists, in tourist areas the prices are increased and moreover this is the month when the majority of Italians go on vacation, so many shops and offices could be closed.
